Waitikiri Golf Club, in its 75th Jubilee year, is very pleased to be the venue for the 2012 NZ Men’s Seniors Championship. The members are looking forward to hosting players, partners and officials and enjoying the camaraderie the event engenders.

On course the competition is sure to be intense and we look forward to witnessing some good golf played in great spirit and fun.

Over the coming months this dedicated tournament page, will have information regarding transport, accommodation, trundler/cart hire, practice times and social activities posted on it. We hope that by having this information readily available to players the transition into the tournament will be an easy one.

Waitikiri GC has an excellent caterer who will provide the following options to players / guests for the duration on the tournament.

Breakfast from 6.30am
Available from Thursday 9th through to Saturday 11th

- Cooked self serve (which includes toast/tea/coffee/juice) OR

- Tea/coffee/juice toast only

NOTE – To help the caterer to confirm numbers players will be asked to confirm the BREAKFAST option at tournament registration.

Post Breakfast
- Hot cabinet style plus usual cold options.

After Golf
- Hot and cold cabinet food available.

NOTE
On Wednesday 8th, after the final practice round the Waitikiri GC will host a short get together pre-tournament function (including food and refreshments) for players/ partners and guests. This will start around 6.00pm and will give the club the opportunity to welcome its guests and to offer some hospitality.

After completion of play on Saturday and after the prizegiving a buffet meal will be available for players/partners and guests More details on these functions will be provided in the coming months.

The club hopes that many players will commit to attending this function which will complete the 2012 Championship in style.

In spite of the Christchurch CBD accommodation being somewhat limited there are still plenty of options available to visiting golfers

Accommodation varies from hotels and motels as well as up market holiday parks all of which offer competitive rates and are within easy driving distances to the Waitikiri Golf Club.

These are in the areas around Christchurch Airport and it arterial routes as well as in Papanui Road, Main North Road and Marshland Road areas.

Visitors are encouraged to Google "Christchurch Accommodation", "Accommodation Papanui Road", "Accommodation Main North Road” sites that will give an excellent coverage of what is available.

We would suggest that potential entrants to the Championships look to BOOK ACCOMMODATION NOW as given the timing of the championships and the fact that CBD accommodation is limited there may be a shortage of beds.

The Waitikiri GC Professional Shop and Staff has several areas of responsibility relating to the Championship. They will include –

- Bookings for Motorised carts
- Trundler hires
- Practice rounds tee-times
- Practice area and practice balls
- Club storage
- Golfing supplies

Motorised Carts

Players who require these (note Waitikiri has a limited supply) will need to supply a medical certificate to NZ Golf. Only when this is supplied and confirmed will a cart be allocated on a first come first served basis, and will include the official practice round.

Trundlers

Local players and those traveling by land are encouraged to provide their own. For those who will not have trundlers the club will provide one including for the practice round.

Practice Rounds

Players are invited to play on the course free of charge on Tuesday 7th February after 1.00pm and on Wednesday 8th from early am. Play will be from No1 Tee only on both days. The No 1 on Wednesday 8th will be closed from 1.30pm A start sheet will be available from January 15th 2012 for those wishing to have practice rounds.

Practice Area

The club has a practice area ideal for short to long iron practice and another for metal wood use. Both these will be operated by the club staff who will supply (at minimal cost) and collect the practice balls. These areas will have roped off designated hitting areas. A practice chipping green and two practice putting greens are also available

Club Storage

The club will offer to store players clubs overnight during the event. Clubs will be stored in secure container units and security will be onsite for the duration of the event.

For the tournament Waitikiri GC has as its preferred rental car operator, AIRPORT RENTALS LTD, whose owner Waitikiri member Ken Cowles has participated in the NZ Seniors Championships since 2002.
