Well, we have our semi finalists for Brooker and poor old Gareth Cook is playing the O’Neill clan on his own, Jayden has been called away but after Saturdays round you will be a handful Gareth.

Saturday reminded me why I persevere with golf, many have said I should look at bowls, but that sport is Gods waiting room so not for me. I played with Roger, Ray and Brownie and if laughter is the best medicine, then none of us will get the flu this winter. I look at Bill Thom playing every Saturday morning at 80+++ and Eric Elley the same age playing in the afternoon and I know golf is a great game played for fun we should never forget that.

Mixed golf is back Sunday the 24th May get a team together and put your name down on the noticeboard in the clubhouse- it’s the Ogier Cup, Canadian foursomes and 40% of your combined handicap lots of fun.

Happy golfing

WOMEN’S 18 HOLE RESULTS:

Tuesday, 5 May

The Midweek women played an unofficial round of golf at Avondale today while Waitikiri was hosting the Women’s National Autumn Pairs tournament. In chilly conditions, the women played a Stableford round which was won by Jane Smithson on 36 points from Anne O’Brien on 35.  Once again, we thank the Avondale GC for allowing us to play on their course.

Saturday, 9 May. While most women played another round of SJL Trophies, Shootout and Ringers, some were involved in match play for the Waitikiri Cup. The first lot of results will be reported at the end of the round. The Unofficial match of the day was a reverse Irish Stableford format, won by Fay McCarthy with 84 points from Sue Orpwood on 75 points.

Tuesday, 12 May.  The women played another round of the Jess Paton Trophy competition, Shootout and Ringers. The Unofficial match of the day was an Odds and Evens Stableford. The winner was Bindy Moore with 26 Points from Lynley Thompson on 24 and Shar Brazier on 22.

Monday, 18 May: INTERCLUB FINAL

GOOD LUCK to our Silver Interclub team who will play Clearwater in the final, at McLeans Island next Monday. The game starts at 9.30am. It would be fantastic to have as many as possible out there to support the team.

Sunday, 24 May. OGIER CUP – MIXED TOURNAMENT

This is one of our popular mixed matches and you are invited to put your name and ID No. on the list if you are keen to play. No worries, if you don’t have a partner, the organisers (Al and Terry) will find you one. The list is on the Club Noticeboard.

SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS to Chris Marple who has passed the Level 3 Referees exam with Distinction and will now attend a special seminar run by the R&A in Brisbane from 13-15 May. We wish her well in this next step toward the elite Level 3 status.

National Autumn Pairs Tournament

It was a pleasure to have the Kerali Autumn Pairs tournament at Waitikiri this week. Weather conditions varied and golf results apparently were just as varied. The Tai Tapu pair of Liz Hodgson and Julie Livesey took out first prize. Our three Waitikiri women, Jenny Rooney, Vicky Brewer and Jenny de Boer who played in the tournament, were also awarded prizes which was great to see. A lot of organising from Kerali, our women and Club Manager resulted in a successful tournament. Support from Helen and fantastic catering from our cafe team and bar staff, completed the picture. We were also proud of how immaculate our course appeared.

Our 3 Autumn Pairs entries: (L to R) Jen de Boer, Jenny Rooney, Vicky Brewer.

Jayne Coles and Marge Wong.
